Formed in 1994 from the merger of the former Sichuan University and the former Chengdu University of Science and Technology (with West China University of Medical Sciences joining in 2000), Sichuan University is a comprehensive Project 985/211 and Double First-Class university and the flagship of southwest China. It is especially strong in stomatology (dentistry — ranked first nationally), medicine, materials, polymer science, Chinese literature, and engineering.
